Ayo Akinwale was born in 1946 to the royal household of Pa Akinwale in the ancient City of Ibadan. He had his elementary education at St. Lukes Demonstration School, Molete Ibadan, Oyo State and before proceeding to the Methodist High School also in Ibadan, where he was introduced to theater arts.
He also earned a bachelor's degree from the prestigious University of Ibadan.
His love for theatre made him change his field of study from Sciences to Arts.

Career

Prof. Ayo Akinwale begun his acting career in 1966, when he starred in a movie; 'Ogboju Ode ninu Igbo Irunmole'. The movie was produced by one of is teachers and he played the role of 'Imodoye'. He has featured in movies such as; Sango, Ladepo Omo Adanwo, Clash of the Gods, Iranse Aje, Eti Keta among others.

He began his academic career as a Science Teacher and a Drama Coordinator at Ilora Grammar School where he performed in a theatre play titled ‘Beyiose’. He further proceeded to the University of Ibadan (UI) before commencing academic work as a lecturer at the Polytechnic Ibadan. He became the Dean, Faculty of Arts and Culture of the University of Ilorin, and he was also the chairman of Oyo State Council for Arts and Culture.
