Born on the 14th of July, 1948, King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu was the reigning King of the Zulu nation under the Traditional Leadership clause of South Africa's republican 1996 Constitution.
He became king after the death of his father, King Cyprian Bhekuzulu kaSolomon, in 1968 and died on the 12th of March, 2021.
He had six wives and twenty-eight children, and died on the 12th of March, 2021. Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu was coronated on the 3rd of December, 1971.

During most of the Goodwill's reign, his cousin , Mangosuthu Buthelezi, Prince of KwaPhindangene and founder/head of IFP, was the Zulu prime minister.
The King was chairman of the Ingonyama Trust, a corporate entity established to administer the land traditionally owned by the king for the benefit, material welfare and social well-being of the Zulu nation. This land consists of 32% of the area of KwaZulu/Natal. King Zwelithini revived cultural functions such as the Umhlanga, which promotes a lot of things including AIDS awareness in Zulu women.
He was also a source of controversies, and was heavily criticized for calling the LGBT relations rotten.
In September 2012, King Goodwill Zwelithini asked the KwaZulu-Natal government for R18m to build new property, including a new R6m palace for his youngest wife Queen Mafu and upgrades to Queen MaMchiza's palace.
The government had already budgeted $6.9 million for the royal family, and the family have been heavily criticized for their extravagant spending lives.
He was Chancellor of the South African branch of the American-based Newport University and in March 1999 Coker College of South Carolina awarded him an honorary doctorate in law.
King Goodwill died on the 12th of March, 2021 from a diabetes-related illness.
