Born on the 27th of January, 1960 in the Sultanate of Zanzibar, Samia Suluhu Hassan is a popular Tanzanian politician, and the sixth and current president of Tanzania.
She is a member of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party, and is the first female president of the country.
Ms Samia was sworn in to become the president of Tanzania after the death of President John Magufuli, and was the Vice President until then.
Talking about her early life, the female president had her primary eduction in different schools including Chwaka Primary School in Unguja (1966 to 1968), Ziwani Primary school in Pemba (1970 to 1971) and Mahonda Primary School in Unguja in 1972.
She graduated from the Institute of Development Management (present-day Mzumbe University) with an advanced diploma in public administration in 1986, and after that was employed on a project funded by the World Food Programme.
Pres. Samia was elected as a special seat member to the Zanzibar House of Representatives in the year 2000, and was appointed a minister by President Amani Karume.
She was re-elected in 2005 and was as well, re-appointed a minister in another portfolio.
Samia Suluhu Hassan is married to Hafidh Ameir, and they have four children together.
Her daughter, Wanu Hafidh Ameir is also a politician, and a special seat member of the Zanzibar House of Representatives.
