Better known by his stage name Obongjayar, Steven Umoh is a UK based Nigerian singer and songwriter.
He grew up in Calabar, Nigeria with his grandmother after his mother moved to the United Kingdom to escape his abusive father.

Steven's music career was hugely inspired by listening to the likes of Eminem, Nelly, Usher, Snoop Dogg and Ciara.
He moved to London when he was 17 years old and attended university in Norwich.
It was while in the UK that he began publishing music on SoundCloud. Obongjayar's work caught the notice of XL Recordings executive Richard Russell, who then asked him to contribute to his Everything Is Recorded project.
He makes music incorporated with elements of afrobeat, spoken word, soul, and electronic music.
