Regina Askia was born at the Lagos State Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Idi Araba, Lagos, Nigeria to the Akwa Ibom family of Elder Asika Usoro of Ukanafun.

Regina Askia attended the Federal Government Girls' College in Calabar, Nigeria where she obtained her West African Examination Council Certificate (WAEC/SSCE) in 1985.
She proceeded to pursue a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and graduated in 1990.
While at the University of Lagos, she was crowned the Miss University of Lagos in 1988.
In the same year, she contested in other beauty pageants such as the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) 1988 and Miss Intercontinental Pageant.
However, she emerged the second runner-up in the former but would later become the titleholder after Bianca Onoh resigned.
She would later proceed to train as a Nurse in New York, USA where she obtained a second degree in Nursing Sciences at CUNY College of Staten Island. Also, she obtained her Master's degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner at the Wagner College, Staten Island, New York.

Regina Askia's career began with her acting in Nollywood movies. She also wrote and produced movies.
She is currently based in the United States of America where she works as a Registered Nurse and an educational activist.
However, prior to that, Regina Askia was a model who had appeared in various Nigerian print and television commercial ads some of which include Visine, Collectibles, and Kessingheen Hair Care.
In 2005, she hosted a fashion show at the Nigerian Embassy in New York City aimed at promoting awareness on the plight of social amenities for children in Nigeria.
In 2006, she hosted a charity fashion show at Lehman College in the Bronx, New York.
In 2007, she modeled for the 2000-N-Six face cleaning range with her daughter, Stephanie Hornecker.
Regina Askia broke into the Nollywood industry shortly after her beauty pageant in 1988.
In 1993, she made her debut in the Nigerian TV series, Fortunes where she played the character of a golddigger, Tokunbo Johnson.
In the early 2000s, she produced several television shows, soap operas, and movies too as well as featuring in quite a great number of Nigerian movies. It was at this time that she relocated to America to become a Registered Nurse.
