Sadio Mane was inspired to pursue a career in football at a very young age after he saw his country's national team's performance at the 2002 World Cup.


He grew up playing street football with other children in the dusty areas of his village. After he had expressed his interest in playing football, which was, of course, was met with discouragements at first, his parents sold off their farm produce to raise money to get him into a football academy in Dakar, Generation Foot.


Sadio Mane's first professional career in football started in 2012 when he competed for the first time in the senior team for Senegal in the 2012 Olympics.


Between 2012 and 2013, some French scouts discovered Sadio Mane and he made a big move from Generation Foot to France to play for Metz in the Ligue.
