Ahmed Lawan is a Nigerian politician who currently serves as the President of the Senate of Nigeria. He was elected to the Senate (representing the Yobe North Senatorial District ) in 2007, after having served in the House of Representatives for the constituency of Bade/Jakusko from 1999 to 2007. Prior to his venturing into politics, Lawan worked in the Yobe State Civil Service as an Education Officer in the state Ministry of Education.

April 9, 2011, Lawan ran for reelection in Yobe North Senatorial District on the ANPP platform and won with 92,799 votes, defeating Hassan Kafayos Hussaini of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) who got 76,960 votes. In 2019, he won reelection as a member of the APC.
