Osita B. Izunaso Biography and Educational Background

Osita Bonaventure Izunaso was born on the 30th of October, 1966 in Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria to the family of the Late Chief Joseph and Chief Mrs Florence Nwamaka Izunaso. He originally hails from Ohakpu Community in Orlu West L.G.A. of Imo State.

He had his elementary education at Anambra State, and Secondary Education at Oguta, Imo State. After which he proceeded to obtain his Advanced level papers from the School of Basic Studies, Makurdi, Benue State. He thereafter obtained a bachelor’s degree from the prestigious University of Jos, Plateau State.

Izunaso also holds a post-graduate diploma in Journalism and a Masters's in Business Administration (MBA) from the International Institute of Journalism and the University of Calabar, Cross River State respectively.

Career and Politics

Sen. Osita Izunaso is not a new face in the Nigerian political sphere. He started his career as a journalist, working with Satellite Newspapers where he rose from the position of Correspondent to become Chief Correspondent and even Abuja Bureau Chief.

He served as Chief Press Secretary to numerous top government officials; including Rt. Hon. Agunwa Anaekwe (1992 - 1993), Hon. Minister of Youths and Sports (1995 - 1997), Hon. Minister of Labour and Productivity (1998 - 1999), Late Chief Evan Enwerem (1999 - 2000) and former Governor Achike Udenwa (2001 - 2002).

In 2003, Osita Izunaso got elected as a member of the House of Representatives representing Ohaji Egbema / Oguta / Orlu West Federal Constituency. He served as the Chairman of the House Committee on Housing and Urban Development.

In 2007, Osita Izunaso defeated the late Sen Arthur Nzeribe who had been elected Senator at four previous elections to emerge as senator representing Imo West (Orlu) Senatorial District in the National Assembly. He was the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Gas.

In 2022, he emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Senatorial primaries. If he wins in the 2023 elections, he'd be replacing former governor, Rochas Okorocha.

Sen. Osita Izunaso is happily married to Ifeoma Izunaso and the union is blessed with four children.
He is a devoted Catholic and member Knight of St. John’s International.

In 2006, he floated an NGO called Kpakpando Foundation with the primary goal of reaching out to the less privileged and physically challenged persons in our community.
